Question: Why is the statistical data always a month or two behind?

Answer: It's really only a month behind. We report data in arrears on a monthly basis (as opposed to daily or weekly.) Arrears means that the data for a given month is not compiled until that month is over. So, for example, let's say it's the middle of June. The statistical data for the month is not complete yet. So the data is only current through May. When the month is over, the data is compiled and posted during the first few days of July - usually by the 9th. During those first few days of July, there is no June data so only May's data is available, thus causing it to look like a two month delay.
